Our Firm

Our firm, founded by William Murphy over 40 years ago after his service in Vietnam, has evolved from humble beginnings in the basement of his Lake Avenue house. Initially offering tax and accounting services, William later expanded into investments. In 2006, Managing Partner Keith Layman merged his investment practice with Bill's tax, accounting, and investment practice. The desire to grow Apple Tree Financial Group prompted the recruitment of Managing Partner Joseph Wiegand in 2010. Shortly thereafter, in 2012, Bill retired to enjoy his well-deserved leisure and pursue his passion for golf in the sunshine state.

Under the leadership of Keith and Joe, our practice experienced rapid growth through client referrals and strategic acquisitions. In 2015, we acquired JD Lehman Accounting, previously owned by Judy Lehman, followed by the acquisition of Jeff Griggs CPA firm in 2019, leading to Jeff's retirement in 2021. Additionally, in 2019, R. Karin Witmer, with over 30 years of experience in minister tax preparation and accounting for churches and ministry not-for-profits, joined our firm. Karin's expertise elevated our service to an entirely new level.

The addition of Karin and our response to God's calling enabled us to utilize our spiritual gifts in providing Kingdom-focused tax, accounting, investment management, and fiscal advice to believers and non-believers alike. We are truly blessed to have the opportunity to help individuals make the most of the blessings bestowed upon them by God.
